From time to time we will shop our competitors, just to see how we are comparing and to keep on our toes. When shopping one the other day, who is a national company the first question I was asked over the phone was, “have we received any other quotes yet?” They did not ask about the house at all or what my situation was. I asked why that mattered. He said, “cause we will beat anyone’s price to get the job”. I then asked, what about quality, a guarantee, service. “Oh, we will give you all of that too” he said. I can’t even get into how inept the person on the phone was. They ended up sending us a proposal. No where did it actually give a written guarantee of a passing test. The words “typically” was used in a sentence about lowering the Radon levels. It almost looks like they guarantee their work, but the wording dances around the subject. Plus for another $195 they will upgrade your fan for lower levels. Upgrade from what? They don’t tell you what fan they planned on using in the first place. Why not install the right fan for the job right away? Be careful out there. Spending a lot of money on making a slick video on a website, which past the first page has no depth of information, can suck you in. Look at the whole web site. Check with the BBB for complaints (this company had hundreds) Call references. A good source is to call local home inspectors to see who does good work. They see the work that’s being done out there. I really wish this industry was regulated.
